Courses for Piano Teachers

Designed to support piano teachers in developing creative and effective teaching strategies.

Each course includes:

• Five one-hour presentations
• Up to 30 minutes for questions following each session
• Optional short assignments

Available Courses

  • Lead-sheet reading is one of the most practical skills in the pianist’s toolbox. By interpreting chord symbols, students can create their own arrangements of music they enjoy.

    This course explores the role of lead sheets in developing creativity and musicianship while providing practical strategies teachers can use with their own students.

    Course Description:
    Learn about the history of lead sheets and explore the benefits and challenges of various lead-sheet styles. The course will consider different approaches to interpreting lead sheets and practical teaching strategies that encourage creativity.

    Participants will also explore ways students can create their own lead sheets and apply these skills across many musical styles.

    Wednesdays at 1:00 PM Eastern Time
    • Dates: September 9, 16, 23, 30, October 7
    • Each session: 1 hour presentation + up to 30 minutes for questions

    Cost: $450
